Farm income, 2021
Realized net income for Canadian farmers rose 46.4% to $13.5 billion in 2021, as strong growth in receipts offset higher expenses. This increase followed a 79.7% gain in 2020 and a 5.1% rise in 2019. Excluding cannabis, realized net income in 2021 was up 46.2% to $13.7 billion.
Farm cash receipts, January to March 2022
Farm cash receipts for Canadian farmers totalled $23.3 billion in the first quarter of 2022, up by $3.5 billion (+17.6%) from the same quarter in 2021. Program payments (+$2.3 billion), livestock receipts (+$975.8 million) and crop receipts (+$193.9 million) increased from the same quarter in 2021.
Dairy statistics, March 2022
The total amount of milk sold off farms in March decreased 2.0% year over year to 793 961 kilolitres. Meanwhile, milk sold off farms for fluid purposes decreased 3.1% to 231 223 kilolitres. Milk sold off farms for industrial purposes decreased 1.5% year over year to 562 738 kilolitres.
Oilseed crushing statistics, April 2022
Oilseed processors crushed 706 762 tonnes of canola in April. Oil production totalled 293 812 tonnes, while meal production totalled 421 551 tonnes.
Milled wheat and wheat flour produced, April 2022
Millers milled 267 000 tonnes of wheat in April, while wheat flour production totalled 204 000 tonnes.
Quarterly financial statistics for enterprises, first quarter 2022
Canadian corporations reported a quarterly increase of 1.9% in net income before taxes (NIBT) in the first quarter of 2022. The financial sector led the increase, recording growth of 7.6% in NIBT. The non-financial sector saw a decline in NIBT of 0.4% during the quarter.
