Tsleil-Waututh Cultural Arts Festival Celebrates Diversity, Family and Community
NORTH VANCOUVER/TSLEIL-WAUTUTH TERRITORY, BC – The 7th Annual Tsleil-Waututh Cultural Arts Festival is bringing an expected 2,000 guests together to celebrate Aboriginal cultures, community, and the Nation’s inextricable link to its territory.
- Sunday, August 18, 2013,12 pm to 6 pm
- Whey-ah-Wichen/Cates Park, off the 200 block of Dollarton Highway, North Vancouver, BC
The event has steadily grown over the last six years and is planned to be an action-packed day filled with music and dance performances, a scavenger hunt, demonstrations of ancient technologies, guided trips in traditional-style canoes, and traditional foods. Hands-on crafts such as basket weaving and drum making will be demonstrated, and a silent and loonie toonie auction will be held.
“We are looking forward to bringing the community together to celebrate culture and learn more about the Tsleil-Waututh Nation,” said TWN Chief Maureen Thomas. “This event will showcase some of the most talented First Nations entertainers in BC. We also hope the festival will create a positive dialogue about the Nation’s stewardship of the land.”
The performances featured on the Chief Dan George Main Stage will include the Smokey Valley Pow Wow Dance and Drum Group, the Black Owl Blues Band, the Children of Takaya, Sister Says, Chief Rock, Van Haleck, the Eagle Song Dancers, and Nisga’a Youth.
Admission to the festival is free. For more information, visit http://www.twnation.ca/.
