Highlights
- Cowichan First Nations Aboriginal Title victory in BC has ignited “inflammatory” opposition to the perceived threat to fee simple property rights in BC and Canada. Accountability now lies with the BC government to negotiate – in good faith – to resolve the issue NOT property owners
- Continued First Nations resistance to Canada’s Bill 5 “The One Canadian Economy Act” and Ontario’s Bill C-5 “Protect Ontario by Unleashing our Economy Act, 2025” and their inherent threats to Free, Prior and Informed Consent and overriding Environmental Assessments
- Auditor-General of Canada issued a scathing report that found Canada made unsatisfactory progress between 2015 and 2022 in removing barriers impacting First Nations ability to access:
- Health and dental care
- safe drinking water
- emergency services
