Whitecap cultural camp gets underway – Leader-Post

A four-day cultural camp on Whitecap Dakota First Nation that gives families opportunities to hear cultural teachings opened on Thursday.

Attendees were setting up tents on the grounds at the All Nations Traditional Family and Youth Gathering, which runs from July 3 to 7. The camp has been offered for more than two decades.

Whitecap Dakota First Nation is a member of Agency Chiefs Tribal Council child and family services, along with three other First Nations: Big River, Witchekan Lake and Pelican Lake. The camp is open to members of each of these communities.

“It’s about our culture and our elders and the teachings of our culture, and to have the kids, young ones, learn our culture so it’s not forgotten, as well as the language,” Coun. Dwayne Eagle said Thursday.
