It’s time to start laying out the blueprint for summer. As the ice starts to loosen its grip, the Winnipeg Folk Festival has officially announced its line-up for this year.

The 43rd annual festival, which will take over Birds Hill Park July 7-10, will offer audiences four nights and three days of musical discovery, including a stellar line-up of celebrated Manitoba talent.

The list of homegrown music acts hitting festival stages features acclaimed roots trio Red Moon Road, dark folk act The Crooked Brothers, the deep baritone of singer/songwriter William Prince, roots troubadour Matt Epp, folk duo Dan Frechette & Laurel Thomsen, and children’s acts Jake Chénier Band and Sand Skyscraper.

Touring acts heading to this year’s festival include marquee names like Ryan Adams, The Head and the Heart, Milky Chance, Sam Roberts Band, Coeur de Pirate, Lord Huron, Lucius, Basia Bulat, Lisa Leblanc, and many more. Click to see the full lineup

This year’s festivities will also bring to the stage a special celebration of Indigenous music. On the afternoon of July 9, Indigenous trailblazers featured in the 2016 Grammy-nominated collection Native North America will bring story and song to Burr Oak, including perfomances from Willie Thrasher, Willy Mitchell, Duke Redbird, Eric Landry, and legendary Manitoba singer/songwriter Shingoose.

You’ll have to wait for the full schedule to be released before you can plan out what you’re going to see, but there’s sure to be plenty of chances to see local talent throughout the weekend, including the popular Manitoba artists workshop that has wowed thousands every year.
