Wolf Sample Collection Program increases compensation for submitted samples

As of May 2023, the Department of Environment now pays an increased amount for the submission of wolf samples under the Wolf Sample Collection Program.

This program has been in place since 2018 and compensates harvesters for submitting the skull and other requested samples and information from harvested wolves across Nunavut.

A total of $500.00 will now be paid for each wolf that is harvested under the program, an increase from the $300.00 previously provided.

In areas where caribou are declining, specifically in the Bathurst, Bluenose-East and Dolphin-Union herd ranges, this payment will be increased to $900.00 for each submitted sample. Enhanced wolf management actions support the recovery of declining caribou herds.

The Department of Environment is committed to support active harvesting by providing increased financial opportunities to harvesters across Nunavut.
