YT Government: Nominations are open for the Council of the Federation Literacy Award

The nomination period is now open for the 2022 Council of the Federation Literacy Award. The awards are presented annually, in each province and territory, to celebrate the work of educators, volunteers, learners, community organizations and businesses in literacy.
Premier Sandy Silver encourages Yukoners to nominate those who demonstrate outstanding achievement, innovative practice and excellence in adult literacy.
The 2021 Council of the Federation Literacy Award recipient was Champagne and Aishihik First Nations Elder Vera Brown for her work promoting and preserving the Southern Tutchone language.

The deadline to submit nominations is July 25, 2022.
Every year for International Literacy Day, each province and territory celebrates outstanding achievement, innovative practice and excellence in adult literacy. I encourage Yukoners to recognize those in our communities who are doing this incredibly important work and nominate them for this award.

- The Council of the Federation was established in 2003 to enable Canada’s 13 premiers to work collaboratively to strengthen the Canadian federation.
- The award ceremony takes place around International Literacy Day on September 8, 2022.
- Yukon recipients have been recognized in the past for contributions to literacy in Yukon First Nation languages and French, for leadership in literacy organizations and for being learners who have strengthened their literacy as adults.
