CIHR, NSERC, and SSHRC are seeking Expressions of Interest for First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples to participate in the Reference Group for the Appropriate Review of Indigenous Research (Reference Group). More specifically, the granting agencies are looking for 8-10 individuals to provide advice and guidance on the effective development and implementation of culturally appropriate review approaches and practices for research conducted by and with First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples. It is expected that the members of the Reference Group will collectively have a deep cultural understanding of First Nations, Inuit and Métis research, including Indigenous Knowledges, to facilitate the advancement of peer review processes and research practices most appropriate in the domain of Indigenous research. The agencies are welcoming broad perspectives from Elders, youth, Knowledge Keepers and academics (at various career stages) to be members of the Reference Group. Applicants are invited to submit a letter of support from their community, and a document outlining what experience and perspective they would contribute to the Reference Group and how their participation could benefit themselves and their community.

The work of this group aligns with the Canada Research Coordinating Committee’s (CRCC) commitment to growing the capacity of First Nations, Métis and Inuit Peoples in leading their own research and collaborating with the broader research community, and supports the recently announced Strengthening Indigenous Research Capacity Strategy to build new models of support for Indigenous research and training.

Anticipated Timeline:

Application Deadline: March 13, 2020
Appointments to Reference Group: June, 2020
