The National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations has wrapped a day long visit to the Washagmis Bay First Nation.
Perry Bellegarde is one of the keynote speakers at the Treaty #3 Spring Assembly.
Bellegarde outlined his key priorities for the remainder of this year, including tackling the issue of dealing with children in care.
“Provincially the child welfare system needs to be fixed. The Council of the Federation is coming up on July 18. So that’s going to be one of the items talk about. About how do you respect first nations jurisdiction over child welfare, not only on-reserve, but off-reserve as well.”
