Between 2006 and 2008, Chiefs of Ontario held the training resources for Community Support Services (CSS). Positive feedback was received from employees who deliver these services within their communities and it was determined that a visual tool would be beneficial to these frontline workers.

There has been a growth in the number of people requiring Community Support Services. A large number of these CSS employees provide a variety of services to the elderly within the First Nation communities. Recruiting, training and retaining qualified workers are key factors in the delivery of quality care.

“Annie: A Case Management Interview” and “When and How to Help: Issues and Challenges”are regarding case management. These DVD’s consists of a simulation of a client situation and was designed to encourage discussion and reflective practice (discussion guides are included with all three DVD’s).

“End of Life: The Circle Continues” was designed to facilitate learning about end of life care and how to support people who are dying and those who care for them.

The target audience is community support staff including supervisors, case managers, and personal support workers. They can be used with a diverse range of health care and social service professionals who provide palliative care and/or work with the elderly within First Nation communities.

To celebrate this development we are hosting this launch to showcase the DVD’s. From this launch, we will have a “made in Ontario”, First Nation relevant visual learning tool to offer to First Nation communities within the province.

We are pleased to offer a delicious catered lunch at the beginning of this event and refreshments throughout. We would appreciate if you could please RSVP to Marla Monague, Health Administrative Support via e-mail at marla@coo.org or phone 1-877-517-6527 or if you live in the area 416-597-1266 by March 24, 2008. Your kind attention and support is appreciated with this exciting development.
