Free Events Offer Valuable Insights Into the World of Entrepreneurship

by NationTalk on September 6, 20071568 Views

Do you dream of starting your own business? Do you presently own a company? The Business Link’s Alberta Aboriginal Business Service Network (Alberta ABSN), with the support of Alberta Employment, Immigration and Industry, is hosting a series of free Networking events to be held in various locations across the province this Fall.

The events will be held in Lethbridge, Calgary, Fort McMurray, Bonnyville, Slave Lake and Edmonton. Aboriginal business owners will share their stories of the challenges and successes experienced along the way.

Last year’s presenters included Deen Flett of Curve Sports from Gift Lake and Edmonton-based Beatrice Floch, manager and co-owner of Spirit Staffing & Consulting.Flett always wanted to run his own sports wear company. He came up with the name Curve Sports and after several revisions developed a logo that would set him firmly on the road to success. He had a desire to design a logo representing Aboriginal people across the country. His design features an Indian head with the Canadian flag in the middle. That year during the NHL playoffs Nashville Predator Jordin Tootoo wore his hat on national television. “When people saw him wearing that hat my sales went crazy,” says Flett.

Beatrice Floch realized her dream of becoming an entrepreneur when she became the regional manager and co-owner of Spirit Staffing & Consulting Inc. in 1999. Today the company remains an established leader in human resource services, specializing in temporary, contract, permanent and executive search services.

Attending one of the six free events offers rare opportunities to hear firsthand accounts from experienced and successful business people who will most certainly “Lead the way for the new generation.”
