Parks Canada Congratulates Winners of 2008 Public Service Award of Excellence

GATINEAU, QUÉBEC, JUNE 20, 2008 — Parks Canada congratulates three of its employees for being recognized in this year’s Public Service Awards of Excellence, for their outstanding contribution to the public service. The Canada Public Service Agency announced recipients of the Award during National Public Service Week 2008.“I’m very pleased to congratulate Dr. Stephen Flemming, Mr. Ernie Gladstone and Ms. Kim-Lai Wong for their commitment to serving Canadians. They bring tremendous honour to the Public Service of Canada, and have made everyone at Parks Canada proud,” said Alan Latourelle, Parks Canada’s Chief Executive Officer.”

Dr. Stephen Flemming was awarded the 2008 Public Service Award of Excellence in the Excellence in Citizen-Focused Service category for his achievements as Species at Risk Scientist at Kejimkujik National Park of Canada, in Nova Scotia.

Mr. Ernie Gladstone, the Field Unit Superintendent for Gwaii Haanas, in British Columbia, received 2008 Public Service Award of Excellence in the Management Excellence category, for his leadership in bringing two different cultures to work together.

Ms. Kim-Lai Wong is an Advisor with the Resourcing Strategies and Programs of Eastern Canada. She was awarded the 2008 Public Service Award of Excellence in the Employment Equity and Diversity category for her leadership as a member of the National Council of Visible Minorities in the Federal Public Service (Quebec).

The Public Service Award of Excellence recognizes employees who have demonstrated excellence in achieving results for Canadians that reflect the current values, ethics and priorities of the Public Service of Canada. Up to 31 awards are presented annually to recipients from across Canada and abroad.

All Parks Canada employees take pride in achievements of Dr. Flemming, Mr. Gladstone and Ms. Wong, and celebrate the excellent work all public servants do on a daily basis in the service of Canadians.
