Saskatoon Public Library Announces 2010 Board

The Saskatoon Public Library Board is pleased to announce its 2010 membership. The Board thanks exiting member Val Schmidt for her years of service to the Library and welcomes Yann Martel.

“Yann began a relationship with Saskatoon Public Library in 2003 when he was selected as our Writer in Residence. We are pleased to welcome him back in the capacity of Board member,” said Zenon Zuzak, Director of Libraries.Membership appointments to the Library Board are made by City Council late in the previous year, to commence in January. Vacancies are filled throughout the year whenever necessary. City residents interested in applying to sit on the Library Board can find more information by visiting City of Saskatoon website.

The Board’s To Do List for 2010 includes:

. Finalize design plans and start construction of Phase 2 of Alice Turner Branch expansion;
. Participate in the migration to a new single integrated library system for the One Province, One Library Card initiative;
. Continue to develop plans for the renovation and expansion the Frances Morrison (Central) Library in tandem with City Centre Plan;
. Continue to grapple with the challenges of maintaining aging buildings in the face of increasing infrastructure costs.
