Labour Force Survey, May 2019
Employment held steady in May, following a strong increase in April. The unemployment rate was down 0.3 percentage points to 5.4%, as the number of people looking for work decreased sharply following little change over the previous three months. The unemployment rate in May was the lowest since comparable data became available in 1976.
Industrial capacity utilization rates, first quarter 2019
Canadian industries operated at 80.9% of their production capacity in the first quarter, down from 81.8% in the previous quarter. This was the third consecutive quarterly decline.
Canadian portfolio investment abroad, 2018
Canadians are strongly exposed to global financial markets. They had portfolio investment in over 120 countries at the end of 2018, with the United States being by far the top investment destination. This form of international investment has grown rapidly in recent years, doubling its share of total financial assets of Canadian investors in the last decade.

The Architectural, Engineering and Related Services Price Index (AESPI) increased 1.2% in the first quarter, following no change in the previous quarter. Higher prices were observed in all regions, with respondents citing rising input costs due to salary changes as a reason for the increases.
