Howie Miller has some swagger in his step as he approaches the microphone.

For a moment he just stands there with his hands gripping the mic stand, saying nothing, letting the audience stew as they look upon the black-clad, broad-shouldered standup comedian.

“So yes I am native, I’m indigenous, I’m First Nations, I’m aboriginal, I’m sick and tired of all the politically correct crap — you can just call me caucasianally impaired, thank you,” he says, rattling the words off like automatic gunfire. “What I like about being native is the free stuff: the land, the education, it’s great. I’m not sure if you’re aware of this, but here in the city I get free cab rides. Well, they’re cop cars, but they get you home.

“I’ll tell you what does tick me off about being native is Survivor. I can’t stand that show,” he continues in a special being taped for TV. “I’ll tell you why, no Indians … It’s probably a good idea because they’re not going to vote me off the island, they’re just going to vote me to the crappy part of the island and leave me there for 200 years.”
