MONTREAL LAKE, Sask. _ Charges have been laid against three men after a shooting in northern Saskatchewan that left a young woman dead and a teenager in hospital.

RCMP say the shooting happened last Saturday morning at a home on the Montreal Lake Cree Nation, where a 16-year-old boy was found injured and taken for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

An investigation determined there had been a fight inside the home and at least one gun had been fired.

A black car seen leaving the home was later stopped by police on Highway 2 near the Christopher Lake turnoff following a short pursuit that ended with two men fleeing on foot.

Trina Bird, who was 25, was found wounded and unresponsive inside the vehicle but she died at the scene.

Weapons-related charges and other counts have been laid against Brandon Lee Corrigal, Wesley Eugene LaChance and Jeremy Wade Charles, who remain in custody following a Monday court appearance.

RCMP say an autopsy will be done to determine the exact cause of Bird’s death, while the Montreal Lake home and the car are undergoing a forensic examination.

“It would be premature to just kind of talk about where the investigation is and it’s going,” said Cpl. Rob King, an RCMP spokesman. “Investigations are fluid and you have to kind of follow the information as it comes to you.” (CKBI, CTV Saskatoon)
