The Métis Nation of Ontario’s South West Region (formerly MNO Region 9) hosted its first-ever Rendezvous on September 20, 2025, at Guelph Lake Conservation Area.

The gathering brought together Métis families living outside their home communities to reconnect and celebrate the Métis way of life. The day featured live entertainment, cultural vendors, traditional teachings, beading, jigging, and historical displays showcasing Métis heritage.

The South West Region Rendezvous supported and encouraged Métis businesses from across the region. Each business made a meaningful contribution to the event, helping to create a memorable experience for all who attended.

The event began with a traditional beaver pelt preparation demonstration by Brian Moore, a Métis harvester from the South West Region. Attendees were able to observe and take part in this cultural practice, setting the tone for a day of learning and connection.

Later in the morning, Kathleen Anderson, South West Region Councillor on the PCMNO, welcomed guests and introduced the day’s events. She was joined by Dana Robbins, Clear Waters Métis Council President; Danika Warman, Grand River Métis Council President; Derrick Pont, Niagara Region Métis Council President; Jake McNiven, Thames Bluewater Métis Council President; and Senator Diane Kilby, who offered an opening prayer. MNO President Margaret Froh also shared meaningful words with the gathering.

Throughout the day, guests enjoyed a variety of activities. Live fiddling by Jordan Paul Smith and brothers Nicolas and Danton Delbaere-Sawchuck provided a lively soundtrack. The Niagara Region Métis Council welcomed visitors to their Métis Encampment with bannock cooked over the fire, while Nicole Hudson of Voyages in Parenting led children’s activities. Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters offered archery, and South West Region Captain of the Hunt Liaison Jim Tolles showcased harvesting skills and games.

In the spirit of Métis hospitality, the community came together over a delicious lunchtime meal prepared by Chef Destiny from Foodzen.

This special event would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of Council volunteers, regional leadership and the MNO Events Team, partners, and sponsors. Heartfelt thanks go to the Diocese of London, Diocese of St. Catharines, MNO Youth Council, and Enbridge for their generous financial support, which helped bring this gathering to life. The South West Region is also grateful to the Cadets, the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, and all the volunteers who contributed their time and energy to make the day such a success.
