Curve Lake First Nation Water Treatment Facility
The purpose of this position is to assist in the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of the Curve Lake First Nation water treatment plant, water distribution system and the elevated storage reservoir to ensure safe and efficient delivery of potable water to the community. This role involves routine testing, maintenance, inspections, equipment adjustments, data recording, record keeping, and compliance with environmental and health regulations.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Support the operation of water treatment plant, water distribution, and elevated storage tank including systems and equipment such as pumps, valves, filters, sedimentation tanks, chemical feeders, fire hydrants, and computer assisted control systems.
- Perform routine water sampling and testing to ensure compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., Ontario Drinking Water Quality Standards).
- Record operational data, test results, and maintenance activities in logs and digital systems.
- Adjust chemical dosages and equipment settings based on water quality results.
- Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on plant equipment.
- Respond to alarms, emergencies, and equipment malfunctions promptly and effectively.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety of the plant and surrounding areas.
- Assist in preparing reports for regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders.
- Participate in training and certification programs to maintain required licenses and certifications.
- Follow all safety protocols and environmental regulations.
- Provide labour support for water operations as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS: Basic Requirements: {APPLICANTS MUST SHOW NECESSARY PROOF WITH APPLICATION OR WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY SCREENED OUT)
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in environmental science, water technology, or related field preferred.
- A valid Ontario Driver’s License
- Must be able to Obtain Drinking Water Operator in Training Certification (OIT) and complete the Ontario Entry Level Drinking Water Operators Course within one year.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends and be on-call as required.
WATER OPERATOR IN TRAINING
RATED REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to progress through the Ministry of Environment Conservation and Parks (MOECP) Operator licensing and certification in water distribution and water treatment with the goal of obtaining licensing equal to the level of the Facility (Level 3)
- Ability to obtain and maintain working at heights and confined space safety certifications.
- Ability to read technical drawings, blueprints, and maps.
- Ability to read and understand complex technical documents and user manuals.
- Effective communication skills (oral and written).
- Able to lift twenty-three kilograms/fifty pounds.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Commitment to operational excellence and maintenance.
- Excellent people skills to collaborate with a diverse client group.
- Possess time management, written and verbal communication skills.
- Analytical ability and effective critical thinking skills in assessing client needs.
- Possess excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a Full-Time permanent position beginning immediately. Hourly rate for this position is $26.51 – $28.14 based on a 39.5 hours work week.
