(Saskatoon, SK) The Saskatchewan First Nation Veterans Association (SFNVA) is pleased to announce the launch of its new Speakers Bureau.

The Bureau is designed to meet the high demand for First Nations Veterans to speak at school functions and various types of events. There are 16 First Nation Veterans who are trained and ready to deliver their message through the Speaker’s Bureau for a nominal fee, which is offered year round.“We want to tell people our version of what happened to the First Nations Veterans after the war, and about the many First Nations men and women who offered their lives to this nation,” says Vice President of the SFNVA Prince Albert location, Phillip Ledoux.

First Nations people were not forced to join the armed forces because they were exempt through Treaty, but many First Nations people volunteered to protect Canada. In Saskatchewan, there are approximately 350 surviving First Nations Veterans. Canadians, and especially Canadian children, are being robbed of an important part of Canadian history, and the Speakers Bureau will help to ensure that all Canadians are aware of the contribution First Nations people have made to Canada’s freedom and democracy.

With Remembrance Day just around the corner, the SFNVA would like to remind everyone to book their services as soon as possible. “We need more people to be aware of these issues and that’s what we’re attempting to do,” says Ledoux.

The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations represents 74 First Nations in Saskatchewan. The Federation is committed to honouring the spirit and intent of the Treaties, as well as the promotion, the protection and implementation of the Treaty promises that were made more than a century ago.
