Artist Talk

Morgan Black, an artist featured in our digital exhibition, will give a short artist talk about their creative practice.

Morgan Black (she/her/they/them) is a St’át’imc and Secwépemc artist and curator living on Treaty 7 territory. Having recently graduated from the Alberta University of the Arts (BFA – Painting Major/Print Media Minor), she spends her time connecting to diverse creative processes that deepen her relationship to her ancestral cultures, the Land, and all relations. Morgan is a co-founder of Crawlspace Gallery and currently works as the archivist and co-director.

Curt Young, an award-winning artist, uses traditional and modern styles of music and dance to share his life experiences and culture with audiences. With pride in his heritage, he utilizes culture as a powerful teaching tool, inspiring and educating through his artistic endeavours.

About the Indigenous Place Making program

During February, the Place Keeping program will feature workshops, performances and an artist talk on the first three Wednesdays during the noon hour. The artwork of five Indigenous artists will also be displayed digitally throughout the month.  Learn more about the other events here.

This event is part of The City of Calgary’s Indigenous Place Keeping program through Public Art that features Indigenous educational programming, workshops, and art by Indigenous artists. Hosted in the Municipal Building—a hub where Calgarians conduct business and Council makes decisions—it highlights the importance of Indigenous voices in our shared spaces.
