About this event

  • Event lasts 5 hours

Join us for an empowering International Women’s Day 2025 celebration!

Come join us for a day filled with empowerment, inspiration, and fun at 163 Queen St E.

Hope for Refugees International, in collaboration with the Kenya Women in Canada Association, the Tanzanian Women Association, Ubuntu Collective (a transgender rights organization), and the Toronto People with AIDS Foundation, invites you to a powerful day of advocacy, storytelling, and celebration.

Under the theme “Breaking Barriers, Building Futures: Accelerating Gender Equality for All Women,” we will highlight the achievements of refugee, newcomer, Indigenous, and immigrant women while addressing urgent issues such as gender-based violence, housing insecurity, and economic barriers.

Expect a dynamic lineup of speakers, a powerful march, cultural performances, and inspiring discussions. Let’s come together to champion gender equality and drive meaningful change!

Objective

The event aims to;

  1. Celebrate the social, economic, and cultural contributions of women, especially refugee, newcomer, Indigenous, and immigrant women.
  2. Highlight systemic and structural barriers hindering women’s full participation in Canadian society.
  3. Provide a platform for dialogue between community voices, policymakers, and grassroots organizations to accelerate collective action for gender equality.
  4. Foster community solidarity through cultural celebration, entertainment, education, and advocacy.

Key Issues to be Addressed

  • Rising rates of sexual and gender-based violence against refugee, newcomer, Indigenous, and immigrant women.
  • Lack of affordable housing and shelters for women experiencing gender based violence.
  • Unemployment and economic insecurity among women, particularly refugees and newcomers.
  • Discrimination faced by transgender and queer women.
  • Precarious immigration status and associated vulnerabilities.
  • Systemic barriers such as anti-Black racism, mental health challenges, and
  • Stigma faced by women living with HIV.

See you there!
