About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours 30 minutes

The Social Innovation Hub invites you to join us for an interactive workshop led by Indigenous Advisor in Residence, Mizze Walker, on Indigenous methodologies and practices.

This event is for social innovators, founders, non-profit leaders, researchers, students and community members who would like to gain a deeper understanding of Canadian-Indigenous relations, Two-Eyed Seeing, smudging, and other protocols and approaches that have everyday applications in life and in social impact work. You’ll also have the opportunity to share your thoughts, and ask questions in a conversational circle.

Mizze Walker, is a two-spirit, Mi’kmaq student at U Calgary whose research is focused on Two-Eyed Seeing (or Etuaptmumk in Mi’kmaq), an approach developed by Elder Albert Marshall (Eskasoni First Nation) emerging from a guiding principle found in Mi’kmaq Knowledge. It encourages the realization that beneficial outcomes are much more likely in any given situation if we are willing to bring two or more perspectives into play. Our world today has many sectors where this realization is exceedingly relevant, including education, health and the environment. Two-Eyed Seeing brings into these arenas the perspectives and knowledges of the Mi’kmaq people, and of all Indigenous peoples, such that mutually beneficial, inter-cultural, collaborative relationships can be nurtured and grown, and new understandings put to work.

All are welcome. This will be an inclusive space, whether you are well-versed or new to your learning journey.

Tea and a hot meal will be served
