National Indigenous Guardians Gathering
National Indigenous Guardians Gathering
October 4-6, 2016
Ottawa, Ontario
About the Gathering
Indigenous Guardians are safeguarding the lands and waters across this country, applying traditional custom and practice with modern management, and creating a unique Indigenous approach.
These programs present a remarkable opportunity for Indigenous nations and Canada as they work together to become global leaders in environmental protection and sustainable development, and as we seek to achieve reconciliation. From October 4-6th, Indigenous Guardians from across the country will gather in Ottawa to highlight the strength and knowledge of Indigenous approaches to protection and management of our lands and waters. The gathering will highlight Guardians success stories and those who are inspiring community-driven action, including respected Elders, distinguished Indigenous leaders, youth, and special guests. The gathering will focus on current Guardians as well as communities looking to establish and grow new programs. Content will include keynote speakers, expert panels and breakout working sessions including:
– Funding and resources for Guardian programs –
– Networking programs –
– Sharing best practices and developing tools to support program development –
– Encouraging program development through training –
Location
The National Indigenous Guardians Gathering will be hosted at the Delta Hotels Ottawa City Centre in Ottawa, Ontario, in the downtown core.
