In the spirit of sharing, UCCM Anishnaabe Police Services (UCCM APS) is excited to host a two-day Gathering to highlight the work of our Lighting the Fire Within (LTFW) project. This informative gathering will be held on March 24th to 25th, 2025 in Toronto, Ontario.

As LTFW nears the end of its five year funding from Women and Gender Equality Canada, we acknowledge their support of this program. The LTFW Project provided an opportunity for UCCM APS to address domestic violence through an integrated approach. This Gathering will include presentations from UCCM APS personnel, the LTFW Evaluation team, as well as leading cultural, mental health and wellness practitioners who have provided their expertise and knowledge to our officers.

The provision of training through a culture and trauma informed lens has had lasting and positive impacts on our UCCM APS personnel as they continue to address domestic violence while receiving the tools and best practices in ensuring their own health and wellness. Project experiences will be shared and expanded as to how UCCM APS personnel have been able to operationalize this knowledge within the six First Nation communities they serve and how others can implement these initiatives within their own police service.
