Provincial TEFA Renewal Gathering
October 28, 2016
Vancouver, Coast Plaza Hotel
Program with workshop descriptions and schedule, updated Oct. 18
First Nations communities are invited to send representatives to a provincial gathering to discuss the renewal of the Tripartite Education Framework Agreement (TEFA) on October 28, 2016 in Vancouver.
Since 2012, Canada, BC, FNESC and the First Nations Schools Association (FNSA) have been working together to implement TEFA, which is a 5-year agreement with the primary purpose of improving achievement rates for First Nation students in BC.
TEFA provides a flexible funding model for First Nations schools, based on the provincial public education funding formula, with specific adaptations. TEFA also commits Canada and BC to consult on legislation or policy changes that impact First Nations education, and makes space for increased First Nations engagement in the public education system.
TEFA expires in March 2017 and the Provincial Gathering is an opportunity to learn about the TEFA renewal efforts and provide feedback to the working groups to inform TEFA renewal. direct
Key Discussion Topics
– Overview of TEFA and the TEFA Renewal Process
– Reports from the TEFA Working Groups: Student Transportation, Technology, Language and Culture, Special Education, Adult Education
– Participant response and feedback
– Questions and answers
