Position: Band Representative Manager, Lawyer

Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30a.m. to 4:30p.m., must be flexible to align work schedule with program requirements which will include some evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays, on-call duties required

JOB SUMMARY:

The Band Representative Manager advocates for the interests of the Oneida Nation of the Thames in relation to the Child, Youth & Family Services Act and other relevant legislation concerning Child and Family Services/Protective Services proceedings in both Canada and the United States.

This role is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Band Representative program, ensuring that services are delivered in alignment with the organization’s obligations and expectations. The manager is also tasked with providing staff training, conducting annual evaluations, and ensuring effective case management.

Additionally, the Band Representative Manager ensures a culturally relevant disposition is complete for all cases and exercises our right as a First Nations community to enter negotiations for the provisions of the Oneida Nation of the Thames Band Representative program.

This role will be instrumental in the development of up-to-date policies and processes while we enhance our Child and Family Services delivery and will require collaboration with the overall division requirements.

EDUCATION:

  1. Law Degree (LLB) or Juris Doctor (J.D.).
  2. Licensed to practice law in Ontario.
  3. A member in good standing with a recognized Law Society in Canada.

EXPERIENCE:

  1. 2 years of management experience in child welfare protection or a social service agency.
  2. 5 years of experience working with Family Law court proceedings and the court system within a First Nation community.
  3. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  4. Exceptional organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
  5. Knowledge of the Oneida Nation of the Thames political structure and programs/services for community members.
  6. A valid Class “G” driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract are required.

REQUIREMENTS PRIOR TO STARTING EMPLOYMENT:

  2. The successful candidate must submit a copy of a valid Class “G” Driver’s License and a recent driver abstract (completed within a 30-day timeframe), at their own expense.
  3. The successful candidate must submit a copy of applicable educational qualifications (certificates, diplomas, degrees, etc.).
