Job Duties:

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of climbing arborists, ground crew, and maintenance workers involved in tree care services, including service line trimming, roadside clearing, pruning, hedging, tree bracing, deep root watering, fertilization, and hazard tree removals.
  • Plan, schedule, and organize arboricultural operations, including tree removals, bracing installations, pruning programs, hedge maintenance, deep root watering cycles, fertilizer treatments, and emergency storm-response assignments.
  • Estimate the labour, equipment, and material requirements for tree-related projects such as hazardous tree removals, non-invasive cabling/bracing systems, pruning work, storm debris clearing, watering programs, and seasonal maintenance contracts.
  • Coordinate and oversee the safe operation of equipment, including chainsaws, aerial lifts, bucket trucks, rigging systems, chippers, stump grinders, and deep root fertilization equipment.
  • Organize and supervise the planting, maintenance, and health management of trees, shrubs, and hedges in residential, commercial, municipal, and roadside environments.
  • Ensure compliance with ISA pruning standards, company safety protocols, and utility-line hazard procedures, especially during service line trimming and roadside clearing.
  • Resolve on-site work-related issues, ensure quality control, and prepare and submit progress reports, project summaries, safety documentation, and maintenance logs.
  • Requisition supplies and materials, including fertilizers, cabling/bracing systems, water bags, rigging gear, PPE, and equipment maintenance parts.
  • Maintain financial and personnel records, including job costing sheets, time tracking, inventory logs, safety certifications, and training records.
  • Coordinate and participate in animal rescue operations, ensuring safe access and recovery procedures when removing cats, raccoons, or birds entangled in trees.
  • Perform the same duties as workers supervised, including climbing, pruning, deep root watering, bracing, fertilization, and assisting with hazardous tree removals when required.
  • Provide seasonal services, such as storm clean-up, emergency response, and winter maintenance related to fallen branches or tree hazards.

Job Requirements

  • ISA Certified Arborist® designation
  • ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in arboriculture, including tree climbing, pruning, rigging, and technical removals.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising crews in tree care, arboriculture, landscaping, or related outdoor operations.
  • Proven ability to work safely around energized utility lines, including experience with service line trimming and roadside clearing.
  • Experience operating and supervising the use of equipment such as chainsaws, chippers, stump grinders, rigging systems, aerial lifts, and bucket trucks.
  • Ability to assess tree hazards and develop safe work plans for high-risk or technically complex tree removals.
  • Strong understanding of workplace safety regulations, fall protection, and equipment safety protocols.
  • Ability to plan, estimate, and coordinate materials and labour for tree care and maintenance contracts.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills to supervise crews and interact professionally with municipal clients, homeowners, and utility partners.
  • Ability to prepare reports, maintain job records, document progress, and manage personnel and inventory logs.
  • Physically fit and capable of working at heights, in various weather conditions, and performing physically demanding tasks.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence.

Working Conditions:

  • Work in wet, damp, strong odours, dust, cold environments, outdoors, noisy.
  • Heavy workloads, stand, bend, crouch, and kneel.
  • Repetitive task.
  • Job is physically demanding, ability to lift 50 lbs or more.
