About the position
The incumbent will apply essential technical care to the invertebrate collections, including insects, housed at the Canadian Museum of Nature, and to their associated data, by implementing the appropriate best practices for their management (i.e., preparation, conservation, organization, development, and use), in consultation with the Curator, the Assistant Collection Managers and others in areas such as research, conservation, registration and exhibits.

Eligibility criteria
This position is open to all Employees of the Canadian Museum of Nature and any members of the public who meet the qualifications below.
*Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Education and training:
Diploma (Certificate) in Museum Studies or Biology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with an emphasis on the study of invertebrates
Language requirements:
French or English is essential
Experience:
- Experience (minimum 2 years) in caring for and organizing large dry (insects) and fluid-preserved (insects and other invertebrates) collections;
- Experience in using zoological classification principles as applied to invertebrate collections (both insect and non-insects);
- Experience working with, handling and preparing dry (insects) and fluid-preserved natural history specimens, using best practices and appropriate health and safety procedures;
- Experience in creating and updating electronic collection records in a museum database;
- Experience in safe operation of laboratory equipment.
- Experience with loans documentation
The following experience will be considered an asset:
- Experience in identifying a wide variety and large number of invertebrates, both aquatic and terrestrial;
- Experience sorting, pinning and labelling large numbers of insects;
- Experience working with large datasets in museum-type databases;
- Experience with specimen imaging systems under stereomicroscopes, particularly with the use of image stacking software.
