Job Duties

  • Follow recipes and/or product directions for preparing, seasoning, and cooking
  • Prepare and cook menu items using kitchen equipment
  • Prepare and cook specialty curry dishes and other dishes
  • Train staff in preparation, cooking and handling food and beverages
  • Supervise and advise kitchen staff and helpers
  • Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies and equipment
  • Estimate food requirements and cost, and monitor and order supplies
  • Clean kitchen and work areas
  • Prepare all food and beverage items to the highest standard following recipes and procedures
  • Anticipate and respond to flow of orders to ensure timely completion of all food items
  • Accurately complete all station set up and closing procedures
  • Maintain food quality control and productivity at all times
  • Adhere to all safe food handling procedures and uphold food safety practices
  • Maintain cleanliness and health & safety standards of your station at all times
  • Follow all operational policies and procedures

Employment requirements

  • Completion of secondary school is usually required.
  • 2-3 years of commercial cooking experience or Completion of a 3-year apprenticeship program for cooks or Completion of college program in cooking with 6 months on the job training
  • Strong communication skills in English
  • Ability to stand in kitchen for long periods of time and carry out physical tasks
  • Ability to provide consistent and reliable services in preparation of foods

Benefits

As per BC Employment Standards Act, 4% vacation pay of the gross salary each pay period or 10 days of paid vacation (worker will choose). Free meals are provided.
