Crisis Care Training Facilitator

CMHA BC is leading systems transformation in crisis care in BC, including through the development, implementation and expansion of Peer Assisted Care Teams (PACT). PACT is a mobile, community-led crisis response team that provides support to people 13 years and older who are experiencing a mental health crisis. CMHA BC’s role is to provide oversight and backbone support to PACT programs that are delivered by local community-based organizations across the province.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to and under the supervision of the Provincial Manager, of Crisis Care Training and Quality Assurance, the Crisis Care Training Facilitator is primarily responsible for delivering crisis care education to our contracted service providers which includes intensive provincial training curriculum for Peer Assisted Care Teams (PACT). The role requires being in relationship with individuals, organizations and communities committed to transforming the way crisis care is provided in the province. At the heart of this work is a deep belief that strong relationships, culturally appropriate care and an unwavering commitment to dignity and human rights for all – including the unique rights of Indigenous Peoples – will transform health outcomes for those in crisis.
The duties and responsibilities associated with this position are described below. As this is a new position, the
nature and scope of responsibilities may be modified over time and other duties may be assigned.
Deliver Crisis Worker Training
- Facilitates PACT training to all PACT agencies in BC.
- Facilitates other crisis care workshops and training, as needed.
- Conducts needs-based assessment and create and deliver on a multi-year training plan.
Ongoing Training & Curriculum Development
- Develops and maintains a provincial standard for crisis care training.
- Assists in the creation of intensive crisis care specific curriculum course content and materials.
- Participates in committees and working groups.
- Reports and provides recommendations CMHA BC senior leadership, community agencies and other partners on training and training content.
- Develops project reports, briefing notes, and status updates.
- Engages knowledge experts of various disciplines and professional and/or lived and living experience in advising and consulting capacities within course design and review.
- Ensures proper use of mechanisms that evaluate and track effectiveness of training courses.
Community Engagement
- Engages with community and provincial partners to support training needs of crisis care services.
- Participates in crisis care strategic planning, policy and program evaluation, and issues management.
- Liaises with crisis care service providers to assess training needs and gaps.
- Consults with new PACT communities around specific training needs.
- Works collaboratively with diverse partners across the province.
- Engages people with lived experience and their families in co-design of training materials and service improvements.
ABOUT YOU:
Education
- A bachelor’s degree, preferably related to mental health and substance use, social work, child and youth care or a similarly relevant discipline.
Experience
- A minimum 2-3 years’ experience in facilitation and/or public speaking.
- A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in curriculum development and delivery.
- A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in the mental health and substance use service sector.
- A minimum of 1-2 years of experience with project management or components of project management.
Assets
- Frontline experience with suicide prevention and crisis intervention work.
- Lived experience navigating the mental health system through self or loved ones.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of mental health, substance use, harm reduction, and crisis care systems in BC.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfort and experience with public speaking and group facilitation.
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse communities and stakeholders.
- Knowledge and agility to use Office 365 tools and cloud-based management software tools.
- Knowledge of reconciliation, decolonization, and equity principles as they relate to health.
- Knowledge of harm reduction approaches to address substance use issues.
- Strong project management, time management and organization skills, demonstrating the capacity to juggle
multiple demands with varying deadlines. - Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse communities and partners.
- Ability and confidence to work in a self-directed manner and collaboratively with multi-stakeholder teams in a fast-paced environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- The position is 37.5 hours per week, primarily during regular office business hours.
- The position is based in the Victoria office and offers the potential for a flexible work arrangement, including hybrid options, depending on project needs.
- The position requires regular flexibility to travel.
- This position is a unionized position under The Health Science Professionals Bargaining Association Collective Agreement. The hourly rate of pay is between $42.27-$52.81.
