POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Account Manager, the Financial Analyst 1 works closely with the Finance Team by supporting departmental and organization performance through the monitoring, review, and communication of financial results. Additionally, the Financial Analyst performs accounting tasks and reconciliations as required to record financial transactions.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or a related discipline required
  • Formal accounting training required, CPA enrollment preferred
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in data analysis or a related field
  • Experience working with Vadim database financial reporting services is considered an asset
  • Experience working with and/or knowledge of Indigenous communities and government
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

  • Acceptable criminal record and credit checks required
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Works closely with other members of the Finance team to ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Assists with aspects of the budget process, as requested, including assessing reasonableness of departmental budgets
  • Preparation and posting of monthly journal entries including recurring entries, monthly and annual General Ledger close
  • Assists Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and the Cash desk with banking, project information and other inquiries, troubleshooting, Vadim support and training
  • Bank transaction journal vouchers and reconciliations, uploading EFT payments, bank account fund transfers, managing signatories and other banking related duties
  • Treasury management, i.e. short-term cash investments, specific to one Financial Analyst position
  • Assists in preparing monthly, and quarterly summary financial reports (Statement of Operations) and related analyses as may be required or requested
  • Prepares monthly departmental income statements, reviews for anomalies, meets with department managers. Communicates with managers to gain their understanding of financial results and required actions
  • Provides analysis of trends and recommends actions for optimization of results
  • Focus on productivity, process improvement, and beneficial change
  • Creates and maintains recurring and ad-hoc reporting, supporting the interpretation and troubleshooting of the underlying data
  • Demonstrates strong customer service orientation and delivers services within contract and internal requirements
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Westbank First Nation policies, standards and procedures, and as directed by the Accounting Lead, Financial Reporting & Budgets

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Strong accounting and analytical skills
  • Ability to streamline functions and passion to learn and grow
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting systems, and reporting tools as well as computerized accounting software
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize workload, and cross-train; willingness to work as a team member
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to understand and work within WFN procedures and standards including standards of ethics and confidentiality
