Under the direction of the Manager of IT and GIS, the GIS Summer Student will be supervised by the GIS Technician and will assist in providing GIS support services for Dufferin County.

What you’ll do
- Assist GIS and Information Technology staff in the creation, updating and maintenance of GIS datasets such as the digitization of feature from Aerial Photography or mobile/in-field data collection;
- Assist GIS and Information Technology staff in the creation and maintenance GIS Apps;
- Assist GIS and Public Works staff in the updating of existing Asset Management datasets;
- Create GIS-related media/social media such as videos, brochures, icons and logos;
- Perform special projects as assigned by the Manager of IT and GIS and the GIS Technician.
- Other duties as assigned
What you’ll bring
- Enrollment in an Geography, GIS or Remote Sensing related course at an accredited college or university;
- Knowledge of/proficiency with GIS procedures and software including:
- AutoCAD Map
- ESRI ArcGIS including ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and associated Apps (ex. Collector, Survey123, Experience Builder, Dashboards, Workforce, Story Maps, etc.)
- Microsoft SQL
- Microsoft Office Suite with emphasis on Excel and Access Databases
- Graphic Communications Software (ex. Corel Draw, Adobe Photoshop, etc.)
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows 11;
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office;
- A valid Ontario “G” driver’s license;
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively; both oral and written;
- Self-motivated with the ability to function independently and as part of a team;
Availability to work 35 hours per week with a typical work week being Monday through Friday. This is a student position funded by Canada Summer Jobs program. To be considered for this position, all applicants must meet the following program eligibility criteria as required by Canada Summer Jobs.
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
