Summary

Passionate about storytelling and making an impact in Indigenous communities? Axioma Consulting helps Indigenous communities and non-profits secure critical funding. We are looking for a strong writer who is detail-oriented, eager to learn, and ready to contribute to meaningful projects. No prior grant writing experience is required, but candidates must be comfortable researching, writing persuasively, and following detailed guidelines.

This position is fully remote, and candidates must have reliable internet and a computer. Indigenous candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Grant Writer will play a key role in researching, drafting, and submitting grant proposals aligning with our clients’ goals. This position is ideal for someone with strong writing skills, willing to learn, and a passion for supporting Indigenous communities through storytelling and securing funding opportunities.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Grant Research & Identification
  • Conduct research to identify new funding opportunities aligning with Indigenous community needs and non-profit goals.
  • Maintain an updated list of grants in our database, focusing on potential opportunities and deadlines.

Proposal Drafting & Submission

  • Drafting clear, persuasive grant proposals using provided templates and frameworks, tailoring each application to the funder’s requirements.
  • Reading comprehension and precision, to ensure alignment with funders’ guidelines is crucial.
  • Collaborate with the team to refine and finalize proposals, ensuring alignment with each community’s unique needs and voice.
  • Support other team members by reviewing/editing their draft work.

Documentation & Record Keeping

  • Using provided tools, organize and maintain digital records of proposals, including drafts, submission dates, and outcomes.
  • Assist in maintaining a grants calendar, tracking deadlines, submission status, and follow-up requirements.
  • Community Engagement & Communication
  • Support client relationships by gathering necessary documentation, understanding community stories, and building rapport.
  • Maintain open communication with clients to ensure accurate and compelling narrative development.

Reporting & Compliance

  • Help draft reports for successful grants, ensuring compliance with all reporting requirements.
  • Gather feedback from clients and stakeholders to improve proposal quality for future submissions.
  • Qualifications and Skills
  • Education: Undergraduate degree in English, Communications, Indigenous Studies, or a related field preferred.
  • Writing Skills: Strong writing and editing abilities with a talent for creating clear, engaging narratives. Experience may include writing persuasively in academic, journalistic, creative, or technical settings. Experience in writing research papers, reports, or community storytelling is an asset.
  • Research Skills: Able to conduct detailed research to find and evaluate funding sources.
  • Detail-Oriented: High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.

  • Technical Requirements: Must have a reliable computer and high-speed internet for remote work. Experience using Google Workspace and email professionally. Familiarity with project management tools (e.g. Asana) is helpful but not required.
