JOB PURPOSE/SCOPE:

The role of the Home Support Worker (CCA) is to provide a service which targets the client’s unmet needs, while facilitating the client to remain as independent as possible and to remain in community.

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking a dependable, compassionate, professional, honest CCA worker that supports the growth and development of our Paqtnkek Home Care Program. Our program is in community and is Mi’kmaw centered and promotes a cultural approach when providing services to our clients. We strive to keep our clients in their homes by assisting them with daily tasks in a variety of settings for the purpose of promoting health, well-being, and independence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

●​ Assist clients with activities of daily living and hygiene, such as but not limited to dressing, skin care, bathing, oral care, meals, toileting, feeding, grooming.

●​ Provide light housekeeping duties.

●​ Collaborates with Home Care Coordinator, Nurse, and/or other members of client’s Health team.

●​ Provide companionship and emotional support to clients.

●​ Maintain a safe and clean environment, adhering to facility infection control policies.

●​ Keeping Mi’kmaw culture and values in the forefront when providing person centered care ●​ Maintain privacy and confidentiality with client’s, staff, and the organizational information.

QUALIFICATIONS:

●​ Successful completion or enrollment in a CCA/PSW program

●​ Registered in the Nova Scotia’s CCA registry as per the Continuing Care Assistants Registry Act ●​ Ability to collaborate with staff, families, and community partners. ●​ Reliable and with good attendance
●​ Physically able to perform physically demanding job duties, able to lift to 50lbs.

ASSETS:

●​ Proficiency in the Mi’kmaw language or a willingness to learn.

●​ Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care course
●​ Familiarity with Indigenous culture and commitment to incorporating it into caring for clients.

●​ Experience working in a long-term care facility or private care.
