Reports to: Energy Manager
Accountable to : Energy Manager, Senior Manager, Joint Council of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation
Terms of Employment: Full Time Permanent (Funding Dependent)
Salary : $60,000-$79,000
Hours of Work : 37.5 hours per week (some evenings and weekend may be periodically required)
Job Location : Wiarton, Ontario (Not remote work)
Anticipated Start Date : Immediately
Priority will be given to qualified Saugeen Ojibway Nation members

The Impact Assessment Coordinator will collaborate with all Environment Office departments to review assessment needs for proposed projects in Saugeen Ojibway Territory. This role is an integral role to the work conducted at the SON EO. Confidentiality relating to SON Joint Council and Nuclear Administrative Committee leadership’s direction, action and communications is a core trait of the position.
Required Experience:
- Post-secondary education in a Science-related field of study or equivalent
- Minimum 2 years of experience working with or within a First Nations government or organization
Recommended Experience:
- Experience working with or within Municipal/Provincial/Federal governments considered an asset
- Knowledge of municipal planning considered an asset
- In depth understanding of the duty to consult and accommodate. Knowledge of FPIC, IAAC, UNDRIP and related Canadian law considered an asset
- Natural resource management or related field considered and asset
- Knowledge of SON rights, Territory, and culture

Job Description:
- Research various impact studies related to proposed projects in SON territory and identify additional resources if required.
- Supports the work on the Resources and Infrastructure and Energy files, under the direction of the management team.
- Coordinate assessments with the current experts identified and recommend any additional resources required to conduct the most appropriate assessments required.
- Provide oversight to the Impact Assessment budgets by reviewing and verifying incoming invoices.
- Notify the Senior Manager of any discrepancies in budgets.
- Reporting status to the Senior Manager and preparing managers for updates to the Joint Council and appropriate advisory committees (Parks Advisory Committee, Nuclear Advisory Committee and Territorial Resources Advisory Committee).
- Coordinating the duty to consult and accommodate SON on a diverse set of files.
- A core function of this position is to support the team’s technical work in carrying-out SON’s consultation process and ensure that the duty to consult is properly scoped and fulfilled.
- The types of natural resources and land use /infrastructure activities that require consultation in SON Territory are diverse and large in scope, and include but are not limited to: aggregate operations, shoreline developments/alterations (in-water works), permits to take water,natural gas and hydro corridors), zoning amendments, forestry management, wildlife management, nuclear and nuclear waste, and species at risk.
