Lead Hand Construction Labourer
Edgesafe Systems Ltd. located at 2075 Paramount Crescent, Abbotsford, BC, V2T 6A5 is looking for a Lead Hand Construction Labourer to oversees a team of labourers, assigning tasks, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and coordinating the efficient movement of materials and equipment. The salary is $34.62 per hour working 40 hours per week. Overtime is paid at 1.5 times the hourly rate. This position may require attending pre-start meetings scheduled outside of normal work hours. This is a full-time, year-round positions. Extended health care, dental, vision care, life insurance and long-term disability are provided after 3 months of employment as well as a company cell phone. Our employees received 10 paid vacation days per year and are paid on a bi-weekly basis.
Our ideal candidates will have an aptitude for precision, be team oriented with a strong work ethic. We require candidates who have at least 1 year supervisory experience in construction projects.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure all workers under your supervision have completed required safety inspections and documentation, including Procore Inspections and QuickBooks Workforce Time Management. (e.g. Daily Field Level Hazard Assessments, Daily Fall Protection Inspections, Pre-Installation Equipment Inspections, etc.).
- Provide guidance to workers to ensure work activities are thoroughly explained and safely executed by your team and overseeing work activities to ensure activities are completed in a safe and efficient manner.
- Perform daily pre-work inspections and verify work areas are clear and conflict-free with other trades activities onsite.
- Maintain situational awareness of weather and onsite activities, adjusting plans as necessary to ensure safety.
- Communicate with management (General Foreman, Safety Manager, Scheduling Manager) if work cannot continue due to safety concerns or delays so that proper arrangements can be made for work to be completed.
- Coordinate with customers and onsite project management (site superintendent, point of contact) to ensure activities and work locations align with other trades’ priorities.
- Ensure tools and equipment are inspected and properly documented before and after use, reporting defects immediately.
- Address any requested changes to the layout or installation of systems, working with management to resolve concerns.
- Ensure the establishment and maintenance of a control zone with appropriate identification and contact information below work areas, particularly when tasks are being performed on the leading edge or when access is restricted due to compromised safety equipment. For example, when guardrails are being installed or removed, or when debris netting equipment is being installed, relocated, or demobilized, a control zone must be set up on the floor or any podium or site perimeter where falling objects or debris may pose a risk
- Confirm that equipment installation matches layout plans, reporting any issues to management if conflicts arise.
- Actively contribute in production and planning to manage consumable supplies (e.g., fasteners) to ensure uninterrupted work schedules.
- Show initiative in production and planning to ensure the work schedule is maintained and consumable supplies are well-managed.
- Train new employees, monitor their progress, and report on their performance in line with company safety procedures and policies.
- Foster a positive and ethical work environment by encouraging teamwork, good communication, and adherence to safety standards.
- Provide feedback and corrective actions to workers when safe work procedures and policies are not followed.
Requirements and Qualifications
- High school graduation or GED completion.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in construction and at least 1 year of supervisory experience
- Valid Fall Protection certification
- Responsible, honest, and punctual
- Positive attitude and good work ethic
- Safety conscious
- Physically fit – able to lift 50 lbs+ repeatedly
- Extremely comfortable working at heights
- Strong command of the English language, both verbal and written
- Ability to solve problems and overcome challenges with solutions
- Work independently as well as in a team-based setting
