About the Role

The Manager, Finance is a cornerstone of our team, overseeing critical financial operations and collaborating with the VP of Finance to drive strategic initiatives. This role combines technical expertise with leadership to ensure our financial stability and continued success in fulfilling our mission.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Oversight

  • Prepare accurate financial reports and communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual statements.
  • Develop and manage budgets, monitor variances, and update the VP of Finance on financial performance.
  • Manage cash flow forecasting and ensure compliance with ASNPO standards.
  • Prepare year-end audits, working papers, and charity returns.

Policy and Procedure Development

  • Maintain and improve finance policies and procedures to align with best practices.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll, prepare RRSP schedules, and oversee accurate journal entries.

Team Management

  • Lead and mentor a high-performing finance team, supporting their growth and development.
  • Manage confidential records related to salaries and benefits while providing guidance on finance-related matters.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • 7–10 years of experience in financial management, with at least 6 years in people management, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
  • Payroll processing experience is required.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a track record of data integrity and compliance.
  • Proven leadership in team building and collaboration.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (Sage Intacct preferred) and knowledge of Canadian financial regulations.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
