Seasonal Gitigan Worker
Curve Lake Community Garden

The purpose of this position is to support the Agricultural Programs Coordinator with activities at Oshkiigmong Gitigan (Curve Lake Community Garden), general farm duties and programming, collaborate with the Curve Lake Community Garden partners and stakeholders to grow, harvest and transport fruits and vegetables and promote community food sovereignty and food security.

The duties and responsibilities of this position are:

  • Sort and pack fruit and vegetables at the garden site, community market, and Food Bank.
  • Load, unload and transfer crates, supplies, farm produce and products for transport.
  • Working with student employees from Trent University and Curve Lake First Nation
  • Operate farm machinery and equipment.
  • Follow food safety and security procedures.
  • Detect disease and health problems in crops.
  • Examine produce for quality and prepare for market.
  • Clean up racks, trays, and harvest bins and general clean-up of growing, producing and packing areas.
  • Participates in greenhouse cultivation and transplanting operations.
  • General inventory of equipment and tools.
  • Assist in preparing garden beds for planting.
  • Progress reports of inventory of tools and harvested produce.

QUALIFICATIONS: Basic Requirements: (APPLICANTS MUST SHOW NECESSARY PROOF WITH APPLICATION OR WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY SCREENED OUT)

EDUCATION:

  • Must be a Curve Lake member between the ages of 15 and 30 (to meet funding requirements)
  • Gardening experience preferred

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a full-time contract position from (April 2025 – November 2025) for a minimum of 20 hours per week, up to a maximum of 39.5 hours a week beginning immediately. Hourly rate for this position is $22.40/hour. May be required to work early mornings, evenings and/or weekends.
