Job Description:
- Adjust, repair or replace parts and components of commercial transport truck systems
- Inspect and test mechanical units to locate faults and malfunctions
- Inspect motor in operation
- Road test motor vehicles
- Test automotive systems and components
- Adjust, repair or replace parts and components of automotive systems
- Adjust, repair or replace parts and components of truck-trailer systems
- Diagnose faults and malfunctions, including computer diagnostics on major OEM engines – Cummins, Cat, Paccar, and confirm findings with supervisor to determine whether to repair or replace unit
- Repair or replace mechanical units or components, including air and 2010 emissions systems
- Test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer’s specifications
- Estimate parts and labour costs
- Perform scheduled maintenance service
- Test and adjust units to specifications
- Advise customers on work performed and future repair requirements
- Complete reports to record problems and work performed
- Coach and instruct apprentices
- Review work orders and discuss work with supervisor
- Provide customer service
- Complete repair/service orders
- Maintain good relationships with customers and co-workers
- Maintain shop cleanliness as a team
- Perform scheduled maintenance of heavy duty tractors and trailers
- Able to follow diagnostics troubleshooting tree and read electrical diagrams
Requirements:
Education: Completion of secondary school is required.
Experience:
- Completion of a four-year truck and transport mechanic or truck-trailer repair apprenticeship or a combination of over four years of work experience and industry courses in truck or heavy duty equipment mechanics is required to be eligible for trade certification.
- Be eligible to obtain a Truck and Coach Technician (310T license) is required.
- Working knowledge of heavy duty equipment and components is required
- Good mechanical knowledge of air systems is required
- Knowledge of electrical and computer diagnostics on major OEM engines – Cummins, Cat, Paccar is required
- Previous experience on repairs on post 2010 emissions systems is required
- Diagnostic and troubleshooting experience is required
- A valid G driver’s license is required. A driver’s abstract will be required upon hire.
- Previous experience on heavy duty diesel engine, Cummins and Paccar engine is an asset.

Salary: $34.07 per hour, 40 – 48 hours per week.

Important information: Flexibility on schedule is required. The work schedule will be from Monday to Thursday from 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM, and Friday from 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Work on Saturdays from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM will be required on a rotational basis. Overtime is required. Tools are initially provided until the selected candidates obtain their own.
