Job Duties:
- Arrange travel, related itineraries and make reservations
- Drive lighter, special purpose trucks
- Load and unload goods
- Obtain special permits and other documents required to transport cargo on international routes
- Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials
- Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment
- Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle
- Receive and relay information to central dispatch
- Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption
- Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo
- May drive special purpose trucks such as tow trucks, dump trucks, hydrovac trucks or cement mixing trucks
Requirements
Education: Completion of secondary school is required.
Experience: A minimum of 7 months of experience is required.
Be eligible to obtain a class 1 MELT license.
Work conditions and Physical Capabilities: Attention to detail, Physically demanding, Repetitive tasks, Sitting, Work under pressure, Tight deadlines, Combination of sitting, standing, walking.
Personal suitability: Efficient interpersonal skills, Excellent oral communication, Flexibility, Judgement, Organized, Reliability, Team player.
Language: English is required
Salary: $25.00 per hour, 40 – 60 hours per week
Benefits: Mileage paid. Medical, dental, group insurance, life insurance benefits are provided by the employer. Dental and extended medical insurance are provided by the employer. Transportation costs covered if worker needs to relocate.
Important information: The worker will be required to work on average 5 – 6 days per week, 8- or 10- hour shifts per day. Days off are provided upon request on a rotational basis. Since our business operations are continuous, work on weekends, overnights and statutory holidays is required.
