Job Description

• Replace worn-out webbing, springs and other furniture parts using hand and power tools
• Lay out, cut, fabricate and install upholstery according to sketches or design specifications
• Tack, glue or sew ornamental trim, braids or buttons on upholstered items
• Repair furniture frames
• Operate sewing machines or sew upholstery materials by hand to seam cushions and join sections of covering materials
• Garnish the bottom and the back of a seat with interwoven rattan
• Read work orders and maintain database of production status for communication with outside clients as well as in-house sales managers
• Install padding and underlays and fasten covering materials to furniture frames
• Cut and sew fabrics, vinyls, and leather
• Reupholster used furniture by tacking, stapling, sewing and gluing foam and materials
• Staple materials, sew zippers, glue piping or other fabric trims, and hammer decorative nails
• Inspect wooden framework for defects and make repairs as needed prior to upholstery application and other finishing work
• May make upholstery patterns from sketches, customer descriptions or blueprints

Requirements:

Education: Completion of high school is required

Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in furniture upholstering and repair, including working as an upholsterer helper is required. If the candidate does not have at least 3 years of experience, then completion of college or other specialized courses or an apprenticeship program in furniture upholstering and repair is required.

Salary: $34.07 per hour, 40 – 44 Hours per week.

Benefits: Transportation will be provided between work locations by the employer.

Important information: The work schedule will be Monday to Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. The worker will be entitled to one unpaid 30-minutes lunch break and two unpaid 15-minutes health breaks. This position requires flexibility in schedule. Overtime and weekend work might be required based on the business’ needs.
