Iqbal Halal Foods provides all the staple South Asian, Middle Eastern, and traditional Western products required by the community.

Our supermarket’s Toronto location intends to move from its current address at 2 Thorncliffe Park Drive, Toronto, ON M4H 1G9, to a larger space within the Thorncliffe neighborhood it serves. We aim to complete this relocation to our new address at 100 Thorncliffe Park Drive, Toronto, Ontario, M4H 1L9 by August 1, 2024. Therefore, the qualified candidate will need to commence work at our new location after August 1, 2024.

Job Summary:

The Vice President of Finance is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, controlling and evaluating, through middle managers, the overall operations of our Toronto location’s supermarket. The role shall entail formulating policies which establish the direction to be taken by Iqbal Halal Foods Inc.

The qualified candidate will need to commence work in this position after August 1, 2024 from our supermarket’s new address of 100 Thorncliffe Park Drive, Toronto, Ontario, M4H 1L9.

Job Responsibilities

  • Identify, plan, develop, and implement financial strategies and set long-term growth goals;
  • Oversee day-to-day financial and accounting operations to ensure sales targets are being met;
  • Set and coordinate internal financial policies, practices, and objectives and delegate resources and personnel accordingly;
  • Oversee, implement, and amend internal procedures to ensure efficient and accurate accounting, financial status reporting, and auditing systems;
  • Provide key financial insights through conducting promotional analysis, store portfolio reviews, operational expense reviews, and e-commerce analytics;
  • Monitor and review financial plans, Key Performance Indicators (KPI), and budgets to ensure compliance with established targets;
  • Lead and oversee internal audits and amend corporate budgets, forecasts, and resource utilization accordingly;
  • Collaborate with other senior managerial staff to identify strategies that maximize the cost effectiveness of our business operations and enhance our financial performance;
  • Contribute relevant financial insights into current and proposed customer retention strategies;
  • Provide financial updates and guidance to sales team to assist them in achieving key financial performance objectives;
  • Assist in creating and reviewing retail revenue planning for our merchandising operations;
  • Monitor budget estimates and plans and ensure retail spend does not exceed limits;
  • Analyze promotions and provide insights and recommendations on future promotional strategies;
  • Conduct research into customer preferences, market conditions, and competitors’ behaviors;
  • Create regular financial reports and financial statements on budgets, costs, and overall profitability;
  • Analyze financial statements, generate financial models and forecasts, and ensure they are accurately reflected in our business’s financial planning systems;
  • Conduct regular profitability review meetings with senior management-level staff;
  • Represent the business in negotiations and official functions, or delegate representatives as needed.
  • Oversee the recruitment, training and managing of financial department staff; and
  • Other duties as required.

Minimum Skills Requirements:

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in business administration, commerce, finance, or a related field is required;
  • At least four (4) years of managerial-level experience in a finance-related position is required;
  • Prior experience in the retail grocery industry is required; and
  • Must be dependable, reliable and have effective interpersonal and communication skills.
