SUDBURY – It was a little history in the making for the 3000 students taking part in Cambrian College’s convocation ceremonies this week. They make up the 50th graduating class at Cambrian, which opened its doors in 1967.

Five graduation ceremonies were held Wednesday through Friday. Each convocation ceremony included a processional led by the Sudbury and District Pipes and Drums, as well as an Honour song and Travelling song performed on the grandfather drum of the Wabnobe Centre for Indigenous Student Services and the Cambrian Indigenous Student Circle.

During his convocation address, Cambrian President Bill Best encouraged students to prepare for a world of constant change, by being flexible and ready to find new paths.

“I am pleased to congratulate each of these high-calibre graduates on their achievements and wish to thank them for demonstrating strong dedication to their studies, to the College and to the community, “adds President Best. “Their achievements are certain to continue well beyond their years at Cambrian.”

During the three days of convocation ceremonies, three exceptional graduates were honoured for their academic excellence. A 1999 Mining Technology graduate accepted the prestigious Alumni Award. A professor in the Civil Engineering program received the President’s Award for Excellence, and a former college manager was presented with the Cambrian’s highest honour, the Dr. Fred Sheridan Award for his on-going contributions to the College and to education.

Each convocation included an Alumni address from a past Cambrian College graduate. Friday’s alumni address featured the brother and sister duo of Julia Fedec (Pre-Health Sciences, 2007, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, 2011) and Anthony Fedec (Civil Engineering Technology, 2006).

Other Alumni speakers included Keith Lindsay (Child and Youth Worker, 1989); Karen Hastie (Physical Fitness and Leisure Management, 1989) and the owner of Akfit; Ryan Benoit (Human Resources Management, 2016) who has Cerebral Palsy and is the founder of the Positive Inception line of apparel; Gianni Grossi (Mining Engineering Technology, 1999), President of Anmar Mechanical and Electrical Contractors.

Cambrian College congratulates all its graduates, faculty, support staff, and administrators for their success this year.
