“All of these women are healing’: Cape Breton’s Elizabeth Fry Society to hold powwow for Indigenous women in justice system – Cape Breton Post

The Elizabeth Fry Society (EFS) of Cape Breton will be holding its first-ever Reconciliation Mawio’mi, otherwise known as a Reconciliation Powwow, to support incarcerated Indigenous women on Friday.

Organized by EFS Indigenous Navigator Karla Stevens, a Mi’kmaw woman from Paqtnkek First Nation, the event aims to support recently released Indigenous women re-integrate into society and get on a solid education or career path while immersing them back into their culture.

Stevens’ role within EFS is fairly new, she says, and was created to recognize the 94 calls to action within the national Truth and Reconciliation Act.
