The Canadian Government’s February 2009 Federal Budget included funding for specific on-reserve housing initiatives under Canada’s Economic Action Plan (CEAP). The funding is intended to stimulate the Canadian economy.

CEAP contains $400 million to support First Nation housing which will be divided between Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation(CMHC) and Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC). INAC Minister Strahl announced on March 16, 2009 that Ontario will receive $65 million.

INAC and CMHC are inviting First Nation communities to submit an application through an Expression of Interest for years 2009-2010 and 2010-2011. The due date for submissions is Midnight, June 4, 2009.
