Celebrating cultures and fighting racism
Oct 15, 2025
Alberta’s government is reopening the Ethnocultural and Anti-Racism Grants to support community-led initiatives that celebrate cultural diversity and address racism.
Alberta’s vibrant cultural communities are a key part of what makes the province the best place to live, work and raise a family. With a combined investment of $13.5 million over three years, the Ethnocultural and Anti-Racism Grants help community organizations deliver projects that reduce discrimination, foster inclusion and support the attraction and retention of a diverse and skilled workforce.
“Alberta is home to many vibrant multicultural communities and should always be a safe province for anyone who calls it home. I am proud of the work our government is doing to connect with multicultural communities, stand up against racism and keep Alberta a welcoming place for all.”
Muhammad Yaseen, associate minister of Multiculturalism
Ethnocultural Grant Program
The Ethnocultural Grant Program supports projects that build more inclusive communities while bringing people from different backgrounds together. Up to $50,000 is available for initiatives that create opportunities to build connections with ethnocultural and Indigenous groups, and up to $15,000 will go toward projects that celebrate diversity.
“The Alberta Ethnocultural and Anti-Racism Grant was instrumental in bringing to life the Contemplating the Tapestry of Filipino Canadian Connections art exhibit. The exhibit celebrated the diverse cultural narratives, shared histories and interconnected experiences between the Filipino and Canadian communities. We are deeply grateful for the Alberta Ethnocultural and Anti-Racism grant, which enabled us to create a powerful and impactful cultural experience that celebrated Filipino Canadian artistry, fostered dialogue and promoted inclusivity.”
Ida Beltran-Lucila, executive director, Philippine Arts Council Alberta
Anti-Racism Grant Program
The Anti-Racism Grant Program helps communities build capacity to combat discrimination and address racism. Up to $10,000 will support initiatives that both educate people living in Alberta and build organizational capacity to support anti-racism work, and up to $5,000 will go to projects that raise awareness of racism and its impacts.
“The government money we were given was vital to the accomplishment of our mission. It gave us the tools we needed to carry out several projects, such as planning community conversations and workshops as well as creating educational materials and outreach programs. In addition, the financing made it possible for us to pay knowledgeable speakers and facilitators, guaranteeing that our programs had an impact and were both educational and entertaining.”
Matthew Gaye, president, Cycle of Trust
Grant applications are now open and will close on Dec. 19. Registration is also open for information sessions (Ethnocultural Grant: Oct. 21; Anti-Racism Grant: Oct. 23) where more information on the programs will be provided.
