Citizens’ Representative for Wabasca-Desmarais Métis District 22 Resigns

The Chair of the Citizens’ Council has formally received and accepted the resignation of Nancy Cardinal, Citizens’ Representative for Wabasca-Desmarais Métis District 22, effective January 7, 2025. As of this date, Ms. Cardinal is no longer serving in this role.
Ms. Cardinal was elected as a Citizens’ Representative in September 2023 and has faithfully represented her District throughout her tenure.
“I want to extend my sincere gratitude to Nancy for her dedication and service to our Nation,” said President Sandmaier. “During her time in office, she was a committed and effective voice for the Citizens of her District. I wish her all the best in the future.”
Ms. Cardinal shared, “It has been a pleasure serving as the Citizens’ Representative for District 22 with the Otipemisiwak Métis Government. I am grateful for the experience and the connections I have made, and I wish the Otipemisiwak Métis Government continued success in all its endeavours.”
In accordance with the Elections and Referenda Act, a by-election will be held, with the specific election date to be determined by the Cabinet of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government. The Chief Electoral Officer will issue a public notice of the by-election at least 75 days prior to the start of voting, which is anticipated in Spring of 2025.
