CBC/Radio-Canada today published a report detailing the results of the first two years of its 2022–2025 Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Plan, Progress in Progress.

“Our equity, diversity and inclusion efforts are part of how we build lifelong relationships with Canadians, who expect their public broadcaster to reflect and represent them in all their diversity, both in our programming and in our workforce. I’m proud of the progress we have made since launching our EDI plan.”

— Catherine Tait, President and CEO, CBC/Radio-Canada

Highlights include:

  • In more than half of TV and film productions, women held 50% or more of the key creative roles (more information is available in our Women in Production Annual Report).
  • Connecting with tens of thousands of Canadians in person and building new relationships in more than 210 communities across Canada through Collab, our partnership program with public libraries across the country.
  • Making CBC Gem and ICI TOU.TV more accessible for audiences navigating these platforms with assistive technology.
  • Meeting with equity-seeking groups across the country to solicit their ideas about representation and inclusion in our programming. This process included 27 consultations with over 900 people with disabilities, as well as in-person and virtual sessions with more than 350 Indigenous people in over 20 Indigenous communities.
  • Deepening our collaboration with partners, including AMI, AMI-Télé, APTN and Inuit TV, to create more diverse and accessible content.
  • Providing more support and training for creators and journalists from underrepresented groups in the Canadian media industry, including the publication of the Newsroom Guide for Managing Online Harm.
  • Being named one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers for 2024 and receiving a Platinum certification for gender parity for the fifth consecutive year by Women in Governance.
