Celebrating the power and beauty of Indigenous life as well as helping non-Native students better understand the culture was the main thrust of Dawson College’s Indigenous Peoples Week 2025, which wrapped up last Thursday.
“I just think it’s important because there isn’t a lot of what’s contained in Indigenous culture that is just not as obvious in Quebec. Indigenous culture is just not as apparent when you walk around Montreal as it is in some other Canadian cities, for example,” Dawson College First Peoples Centre coordinator Jessica Quijano said. “This is a celebration of Indigenous culture as well as a chance to spread awareness and knowledge. This is about artists, activists and other people that are doing so much.”
Monday’s activities consisted of screenings of a pair of Indigenous-themed films – This Changes Everything and Night Riders – as well as a two-hour lacrosse instructional event and a film workshop.
