The New Southern Plains Métis Local #160 will host its inaugural Métis Fall Festival on Friday, October 3rd from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wakamow Valley’s Skating Oval.
The free, family-friendly event aims to showcase Métis heritage through traditional games, cultural displays, and live entertainment. Darrell Hawman, one of the organizers, said the festival aims to celebrate the culture through both participation and performance.
“This is the first annual Métis Fall Fest, Voyageur Games/Rendezvous we’re calling it, and it’s a celebration of Métis culture and activities,” Hawman said.
The festival will feature traditional jigging performances, cultural instruction on stage, and a strongman competition — with cash prizes of $150 for first place, $100 for second, and $50 for third.
